A former Louisiana teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student multiple times in 2014 set up an alternate Facebook account to communicate with him, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Shelley Dufresne, 34, used the online alias “Madison Mexicano” to “communicate exclusively” with the student during their alleged relationship between August to September 2014 in Jefferson Parish, the New Orleans Advocate reported.
She faces two counts of carnal knowledge of a minor and 10 years in prison with a $5,000 fine.
The profile — which had a profile picture showing the character Speedy Gonzales and a cover photo that read “I Heart Mexican Boys” — was a “private joke” between the pair, prosecutors said.
The messages between Dufresne and the student signaled the two kissed for the first time on Aug. 22, 2014, in her classroom. After a football game that night, Dufresne and the student had sex in her car twice, prosecutors said.
Dufresne was the teen’s English teacher at Destrehan High School.
At one point, Dufresne took the teen to Rachel Respess’ home. Respess, another former teacher, also had sex with the teen, authorities said at the time.
Both teachers were eventually caught when the student bragged about his encounter with them.Days later when authorities became aware of the incident, Dufresne sent a message to the student from the “Madison Mexicano” account saying, “I trusted you too and you showed everyone everything.”
Respess was not charged with a sex crime in that case, but with failure to report the incident. She faces one year in prison.
Prosecutors allege the teen took cellphone video of Respess while she was sleeping and showed it to his football teammates.
