A distraught mother admitted to living with the body of her dead daughter for a week, before throwing her into the sea, according to police in Italy.
Rimini police launched an investigation against 48-year-old Gulnara Laktionova, after fishermen found a suitcase containing the body of 27-year-old Katerina Laktionova, in the Adriatic Sea.
According to the police investigation, Katerina lived with her parents in Ufa, Russia. Katerina studied at the Bashkir State University, and when she graduated, she became a model.
Recently, Katerina started suffering from anorexia. She weighed just 77 pounds at the time of her death. Katerina and Gulnara moved to Italy in order to get treated for her condition.
However, her problems only got worse until she suddenly died.
Gulnara became extremely distraught, and lived with her daughter’s dead body for a week. She then wrapped the body in a black plastic bag, and stuffed her in a suitcase.
She took the suitcase to the sea, and threw her in the water.
Gulnara then called her husband Alexander, 46, and confessed to throwing her daughter into the sea because she wanted to
wipe away all memories of her.
Gulnara then flew back to Russia, before the body was found.
A coroner determined that Katerina died from malnutrition.
Police found no evidence of violence on her body and ruled out foul play. No charges have been filed.
