A New Jersey woman shoveling snow at the end of her driveway was run over and killed on Thursday — by her very own husband, police said.
Ann Weisse, 67, was struck outside her Pompton Plains home around 9:20 a.m. as her husband, Frank Weisse, was attempting to leave in his pickup truck, according to NJ.com.
“He did not see her,” said Pequannock Township police Capt. Christopher DePuyt.
Frank was reportedly backing up out of the driveway when the accident occurred.
“It’s just tragic,” DePuyt said. “Any fatal accident is sad. But this is very, very sad.”
The Weisses have lived in Pequannock Township for more than four decades and are well known throughout the community. They’ve been married since 1971.
“They were just a pleasant, happy couple,” explained Sean Singh, owner of a local Chevron that Frank used to be in charge of.
“It’s just a sad, sad thing,” he said. “Frank is true gentleman. Everybody loves him in this town.”
The Weisses had a son and a grandson together, NJ. com reports.
A funeral is planned for Ann on Monday in Pompton Plains.
