The parents of a little boy who pulled down a statue are being hit with a $132,000 bill, even though they claim the statue was a source of danger.
Security camera footage that has been widely seen shows Troy Goodman and another child playing in the public area of a suburban Kansas City community center.
When the boy steps on the statue’s base and tuoches it, the video shows, he then appears to try to stop it as the statue topples onto him.
His mother, Sarah Goodman, said it happened during a wedding reception and they later got a letter from an insurance company representing Overland Park, Kan., claiming they were liable for the damage. The letter said the chld was not being monitored closely enough.
Sarah Goodman also rebutted claims of negligence, saying that “My children are well supervised, but all people get distracted.”
